Nutter Butter Snowmen

2013 12 19_3348Aren’t these little guys adorable? Who wouldn’t want them on their holiday goody tray?  I saw these on Pinterest and knew right away that they had to happen this year. They are just so dang cute!  And easy too, which is always a good thing.

The base of the snowman is a Nutter Butter cookie dipped in almond bark. The buttons are M&M’s and the nose is half of an orange Tic-Tac. The eyes and mouth are drawn on with dots of black decorator icing, and to be honest, if I make these again, they are either going to be eyeless or I’m going to need to find a better solution. The icing is super cute, but it doesn’t set, so when you try to store these or put them on a tray, the icing gets bumped and their faces get smeared. Maybe little pieces of black licorice instead? Mini chocolate chips?

To get started, melt a package of vanilla almond bark in a double boiler. My “double boiler” is a glass bowl set on top of a pot of water.

While the almond bark was melting, I cut my Tic-Tacs in half and opened my Nutter Butters.

Once the almond bark is melted, I take the whole pot to my kitchen table which is my work space for dipping. The residual heat from the water will keep the almond bark from getting too thick while you dip the Nutter Butters.

Then it’s time to open the cookies. I dip them into the almond bark and flip them over with a fork so they are nice and coated. Then scoop them up the fork to let the access drip off. Then I lay them on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper.

2013 12 19_3343Then I set my eyeless, mouthless snowmen on my porch where it was freezing cold so the almond bark would set faster. You could put them in your fridge or freezer too, or if you wait long enough it will setup at room temperature too.

Once the almond bark is nice and hard, I used decorator icing to dot on the eyes and mouth.
